Studies in Alternative Therapy: Body and Nature No. 2

Description

Many alternative therapies are based on models of body and nature which differ from dominating models within medical science. We, thus, find a plurality of models and practices coexisting in contemporary Western countries; the body as anatomy, as physiology, as homeostasis or balance, as a biological ecosystem, as energy, as a spiritual being, as a multi-dimensional system, etc. In 1994, the International Network for Research on Alternative Therapies (INRAT) invited researchers from Europe and USA to present and discuss the use and conceptualisation of bodies and nature in alternative therapies. This volume brings most of the lectures rewritten as articles. The authors discuss concepts and use of bodies and nature in several alternative therapies: i.e: Chinese medicine, herbalism, homeopathy, and spiritual healing. The discussions are scientific in being based on research and provided by experienced and well-trained researchers - but bring novelty into the ongoing debate by discussing the significance of alternative therapy from a non-medical perspective.

A military thriller [with] some pretty impressive actions scenes [and] the lived-in, gritty feel of the original trilogy . . . [Alexander] Freed shows us the military side of the "Star Wars" universe in Studies in Alternative Therapy: Body and Nature No. 2 free epub a way that we haven t seen much before, while also giving readers new perspectives on classic characters and moments. "Tech Times" Building on the success of his Life with Full Attention: A Practical Course in Mindfulness, Maitreyabandhu here offers a challenging but profoundly useful work on how to practise Buddhism in everyday life. Drawing on examples from the life of the Buddha, as well as weaving in astute references to poetry and art, Maitreyabandhu gives an easily understood outline of the system of spiritual life as undertaken by Buddhists in the Triratna Community. The journey starts with our own mind, particularly when we begin to look into the truth of things - the truth of the old man on the escalator, the friend in hospital, the coffin we help carry to the graveside. What we find in our guide, the Buddha, is a man with a 'fit' mind: a healthy, happy, non-neurotic, honest-to-goodness mind. To get fit, we need to work on becoming a happy healthy human being. We need to integrate our thinking faculty with our emotions. We need to wake up to thought and tune in to direct experience. And we need to work against the ever-rising tide of trivia, dissipation and overstimulation of the modern world.Maitreyabandhu takes us on this journey with practical week-by-week exercises, focusing on cultivating mindful awareness, being happy, integrating and simplifying our lives, knowing ourselves and truly being ourselves.
